International Men's Day - DC1498 Gareth Jones

#InternationalMensDay - As a part of our International Men's Day Campaign meet DC1498 Gareth Jones who works on the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit in Gwynedd South.

After a woman initially came forward to report that she had been sexually abused as a child in the early 1990’s by her then foster parent; DC 1498 Gareth Jones’s enquiries uncovered a history of serious child sexual offending by the suspect spanning over 4 decades in the West Midlands and North Wales areas, against a number of victims.

In all, the suspect was charged with 20 counts relating to various serious sexual offences against 6 victims. All of whom had been children or young adults at the time of the offending, between the 1970’s to early 2000’s. At trial the suspect, now in his late 60’s was found guilty on the majority of counts and sentenced to 19 years in prison.

DC Jones has been commended for his good work by the District Judge, Crown Prosecution Service and one of the victims. DC Jones has also been put forward for ‘The Detective Shield’, an award presented to an individual or team who has demonstrated outstanding commitment, energy and professionalism in investigating a complex crime or series of crimes.
